Its a known fact that AR Rahman is a trend setter for music industry. After Ilayaraja, its AR Rahman who captured trillions of music lovers. And also he is the only one from india, who made the entire world turn at him for his marvellous music. His music has become a Class brand around the globe.
For the past few years, Rahman doesn't compose much tamil albums as he was busy with english and hindi. Meanwhile entered another genius who has same style of Rahman in composing music. He is none other than Harris Jeyaraj, who was working with AR Rahman as a keyboardist in 1999 for a period of one year. His debut tamil album Minnalae worked out well and his music is also well received by audience. Now he has become the second choice for all directors and producers, if they cannot get arrahman compose for them. Its because even harris can give quality music like ar rahman.
Now we have a healthy competition between these two. Harris has come with sathyam and dhaam dhoom songs and ar rahman with sakkarakatti. Sathyam songs are just average, but dhaam dhoom songs are simply superb. Ar rahmans sakkarakatti songs are just rocking.
Both the movies are also to be released simultaneously. Letz see which is gonna win? Guru or trainee?

yuwan seems far batter than harris , and i still wonder why people would dare to compare ARR with Freak harris , the man who is always stick with same tune and raaga each and every song he compose is a copy of ARR offers , westerns . also he lacks the varity if you listen his first album minnale , thats it ' its all you got with in every films he work . where else ARR do i need to say about him ? simlpy superb

able to compose songs in the class like- Varaaga nadikkarayoram, Quaja mere Qwaja, Manmohana, Dil Gira, Kaise Mujhe, Jane tu mera Kya hai, Mujhe rang De, Songs of Rang de Basanti, lagaan,Jhoola Baahonka, Taram pam pam, Kismat se hum tumse mile ge, Ae Ajnabi, Chayya Chayya, Barso re Megha Megha, Songs of kandu konden Kandu konden, Enswasakkate, etc.etc. See the veraities of songs he compossed.Songs are entirely different with its classic touch. But HJ's songs are mind blowing but having same look.So let him break the shell and produce more veraities of songs first. Then we sart compare. It is time to compare ARR with IR.

The first 2 lines' flow, that is, nothing more. And, considerably spruced up in Rahman style, of course! I recall reading Rahman's apprenticeship as an arranger for other composers like Ilayaraja, Ousepachan and Raj Koti, so a connection cannot be ruled out as a coincidence. Plus, I'm not getting into a guessing game which points to Rahman composing this tune originally for Raj Koti since that's merely a conjecture!

I love Harris jeyraj. Over the last years Rehman has been best but harris has evolved to be his competator. People may say him copy cat and don't want to compare with ARR. It's good that we not compare with ARR but let's not forget he has stolen many hearts by his rocking music. Comparision between yuan, harris, and arr is yuvan is best in love based feel songs. Arr was best for past years ! But not now. The thing is he is unable to give melody songs like [bombay, roja etc...] but harris can compose western touch of melody songs. The corus part is awesome. He can give the peppy songs superbly. Harris is the best, look at the film fare awards he gets each year it proves the listerners are with him.
I dont see any awards for arr maybe only thru his sponsered agents, money or sms including his oscar thru agent.
gautham made the biggest mistake by changing harris to ARR, look the songs of VTV, its a flop, compared to Harris music in his past films, Gautham says he waited for 8 yrs to get ARR, yes to give such a flop.

'Ekamevadhvitheeyam' means "there is only one paramatma, no second entity". This song opens almost exactly like the prominent score from the cult classic 'The Untouchables' with music by Ennio Morricone. Why Rahman chose to lift this so blatantly really beats me, even if figures in Baba for a few fleeting seconds! In the soundtrack of The Untouchables, this tune plays almost throughout the movie, more so for the softer/sadder moments! I'm adding the track called 'Al Capone' which probably brings out the copy best, in my opinion! Tip: Play the Baba number in full volume, the opening plays in very low volume!

Ottagatha Kattikko [Film: Gentleman (1993)]
Highly inspired by Raj Koti's Telugu pop song 'Eddem ante' sung by Malgadi Shuba, in 1991.

Malgadi Shuba's 1991 Telugu pop song, 'Eddem Ante Teddam Antav', from the album 'Chik pak chik bam', with music by Raj Koti, seems to be the source of inspiration for Rahman's superhit Gentleman song, 'Ottakatha Kattikko'. The first 2 lines' flow, that is, nothing more. And, considerably spruced up in Rahman style, of course! I recall reading Rahman's apprenticeship as an arranger for other composers like Ilayaraja, Ousepachan and Raj Koti, so a connection cannot be ruled out as a coincidence. Plus, I'm not getting into a guessing game which points to Rahman composing this tune originally for Raj Koti since that's merely a conjecture!
There's another long-standing allegation that the Gentleman track was in fact inspired by a much older Malayalam song, 'Kuyiline thedi' from the 1954 film, 'Neelakkuyil', with music by Raghavan K. I personally do not find that direct a connection between this one and Ottagatha Kattikko. Plus, the Raj Koti apprenticeship angle perhaps gives more weight to the Telugu pop song connection. My opinion? Far-fetched. No similarity strong enough to warrant a post here. But, I'd let you decide!

Every one complaining ARR,HJ,YUVAN,etc.. are copy cats. Even though they use australian or folk in every thing in tamil we say "raagam" is standard. There are certain number of raagam's. If 2 songs similar means raagam may be same but tune varies.For some raagams different tunes can suit and for some raagam only certain tunes suit. who knows, college boys shouting "jalamala jalamala gumthalakka" may also contain any raagam.
Even if they copied let them do. Music is to relax and entertain our mind. But here we do the opposite by comparing. If we notice the fact, for some movies the songs may not be a hit. But the music director will earn money.
Every music directors are members of worldwide music clubs. In those clubs the members will compose many varieties and post there. Whoever interested in whatever tunes they can pay money to the club and the composer and utilize the tunes. Harris in some club in Australia and arr in some club in London.
Many say ARR copy from English musics. I too heard and believed. The truth is he also was part of some of those composings.Foreigners wont recognize our people even if they are talented. So his work diminished. But once he got recognition all over the world his composings also got recognition.He worked in the lord of the rings, and he also composed one song BEAUTIFUL in the album AKON FREEDOM.
ARR worked with both Ilayaraja and MS.Vishwanathan. Ilayaraja master of classic and MSV master of western beats and folks in their period. So ARR can do his best in all with their inspiration and he introduced western music to tamil film industry.
Harris on the other hand worked only with ARR so he do his best in western based melodies. He came to the field 10 years after ARR. As time goes he also can master all types of music.
Comparing and commenting is easy. If we sit and compose a tune then we can know the difficulties. Even if we want to apply tunes of existing songs for our own lyrics it will be difficult.

Hi, yes. I'm fan of Rahman and would love only songs of Rahman. No illaya, no yuvan, no manisharma, no vidyasagar, no deva etc...... When harris came, I thought that he would be one among others and would vanish . Initially minnale impresssed me but had thought harris would vanish on the way and also do not wanted to accept the truth that he is a great musician by listening to a single movie songs. Consequently Majnu, lessa lessa, 12B, Samy, kaka kaka, samurai and many others impressed me a lot and I should accept the truth that Harris is truly talented and there is one more person who is as good as Rahman. Some people get irritated when he is compared to Rahman and some say that he is copycat and some say his songs sounds western. But I would like to say HARRIS ROCKS and has some talent and need to appreciated.

I really take pity on HJ fans. When look at their comments favouring HJ, they are really working hard to look for proof that he is better than AR.. But everything is going futile. All they can show is his hits......but can't show any academic recognition by music world.....At the most they can argue that HJ has got Film fare awards but it is not decisive award to prove one musician to be Legend. He can't achieve that level also because he is in very enclosed music circle and confined to western melody. Apart from this nowhere else he has proved his capability.. He is just a commercial music director who copies hit songs from overseas and gives it to us.That'y his songs are academically not recognised. AR is differ from HJ in his attitude. He has just crossed the limit of achievement and oscar speaks of his proficiency in Music.. As everyone knows One's music is peer reviewed technically by top legends in this field before awarding Oscar. It must be his original contribution also. Here layman audience appreciation is not considered for award. AR has achieved oscar. One more award that crowned him is Grammy award. no need to explain about this award... AR is top rated musician by TIMES. AR is recognised musicians by entire music community for his innovative original music scoring. I can give some more examples which speak for his potentiality. Just can anyone give healthy proof like this supporting HJ capability.. Someone says he is the topper in trinity music college. Just remember one thing all top scorer in the school never achieve something big but some average student also achieve something big for which lot of proof we have. AR is one kind of that. MY OPINION IS In ARR music albums only two or three hit songs but in harris jayarajs music albums minimum three songs or all are hit songs and also background musics in ARR album movies are not good but in harris album movies the BM is fabulous .

but Harris Jeyaraj has same type of Tune and system of music in all his movies this is his main problem, He need to do experiments as like ARR and IR if he need to be like them ........ and many of songs starts with some western songs inspiration...
